Did you know: France is actually the world’s largest Scotch whisky market?

The annual Monte Carlo Whisky Festival is almost upon us...
But which brands should you be keeping an eye out for this year? We spoke to the festival's founder and director or La Maison D'Ecosse, Anita Di Sotto who gave us her top five most notable brands to look out for.

The Monte Carlo Whisky Festival The Monaco Blend

1. The Monaco Blend.

Specially selected by the famous “nose” of Charles Maclean for the Monte Carlo Whisky Society. Charles is a famous authority on the subject of Scotch whisky; a Master of the Quaich; a whisky Historian; an Author of many whisky books; and the Patron of the Monte Carlo Whisky Society.

This is a blend of a high proportion of well-aged malts and four grains  from both the West Coast and Speyside regions of Scotland. Bottled in Scotland at 40% vol. The recipe remains a well-guarded secret.

The Monaco Blend is partnered with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Glenmorangie Whisky Monte Carlo Whisky Festival 2016

2. Glenmorangie.

Andy Macdonald, Distillery Manager at the legendary Glenmorangie distillery will be presenting a 1989 Single Cask 29-Year-Old Ruby Port Cask. Andy and the rest of the Macdonald family controlled the Glenmorangie whisky company for 86 years before selling to French company MHLV back in 2004. The company still today holds the records as the best selling single malt in Scotland almost continuously since 1983, and produces around 10 million bottles per annum.

3. The Glenrothes.

Ronnie Cox, Global Brand Ambassador for the highly acclaimed single malt whisky brand Glenrothes, will be presenting the very special 2nd Release Bottling of the Grimaldi Collection The Glenrothes 1992 (24-year-old) 'Winemakers Range' No 7: ex-Dow's port pipe ABV 57%. There are only 300 bottles of this, and this particular blend was personally selected by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco himself!

Glenfarclas Whisky Monte Carlo Whisky Festival 2016

4. Glenfarclas.

The multi-award winning Glenfarclas Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky has been distilled on Speyside for six generations by one family – the Grants. We've been tipped that this is a must-try!

The Balvenie Monte Carlo Whisky Festival

5. The Balvenie.

Thanks to a unique combination of natural alchemy and centuries old craftsmanship, The Balvenie brand is unique amongst other single malts. The Balvenie Tun 1858 Batch No. 3 will be presented by Balvenie Global Brand Ambassador Dr. Sam Simmons. Keep your eyes and noses peeled for this auction!
