Tender of the week: Whitmarsh 115

Here at Superyachtcontent we love a cool tender, especially a fast RiB. So, here is our tender of the week, the Whitmarsh 115

Whitmarsh is a relatively small British boat builder, run by owner James Whitmarsh. They are known for relatively low volume but very high quality RiBs. Because of this, Whitmarsh has found a nice niche in the Superyacht industry where quality is prized above almost everything else.

Because of the low volume Whitmarsh are a fairly rare sight as a superyacht tender, but in a good way. Exclusivity is key remember.

They are also pretty well priced too, meaning that you get a well made, rare, reliable and therefore desirable tender for a very good price.

What is it?

The Whitmarsh 115 is the perfect rugged chase tender. Because it is a RiB, 11.5m long and also pretty quick it can cover all sorts of tender duties and serve far more than one purpose.

It’s fast!

Yes it is. Here are some stats for you;

  • 11.5m long
  • 2 x Mercury Verado XL outboards (900hp)
  • Max Speed: 60+ Knots

Impressed? We thought so!

This is a special tender. And, luckily for you this Whitmarsh 115 is in build at the moment and for sale. Available for delivery for this (2021) summer season,  Click here to view the more important details and talk to the seller.

It’s for sale

World’s most complex sailing yacht

S/Y Maltese Falcon was delivered in 2006 by Perini Navi. Despite being 15 years old now she is still “one of a kind” and causes a stir wherever she goes.

A bit of history

S/Y Maltese Falcon is the brain child of original owner and super keen yachtsman, Tom Perkins. He discovered the hull (originally built in 1990) in 2001. The original idea for the yacht was for her to be square rigged, a 19th Century concept. However, after hiring Dykstra naval architects to look into this further it was decided that the Dynarig concept would be more suitable. This was developed by Dykstra, Insensys, and Perini Navi based on a 1960’s design by Wilhelm Proiss. And so, S/Y Maltese Falcon was born.

The stats

S/Y Maltese Falcon measures in the the following statistics;

LOA: 88.1m

Beam: 12.6m

Draft: 6-11m

Air Draft: 58.2m

Sail area: 2400 sq/m

Guests: 12 in 6 cabins

Crew: 19

Awards

Because she is clearly something a bit special, S/Y Maltese Falcon has won a huge number of awards. These include

  • Sailing yacht of the year 2007
  • Best interior design (sail yacht)
  • Most innovative Sailing yacht
  • Highest technical achievement in a sailing yacht
  • Best interior (sailing yacht)

What else?

Despite her age, Maltese Falcon is a stunning yacht. She is still considered to be innovative. Add to that her amazing free standing Dyna Rig or “falcon Rig” and sailing performance which is stunning for a yacht this size. Reputed to have cost over $150m USD to build and charters for $480,000 per week. A bargain compared with M/Y Flying Fox at €3,500,000 per week.

She is a rare find in the Superyacht industry. A large Sailing yacht that actually performs well under sail. With her sleek likes, amazing rig, award winning interior, and cool features we rate her as one of our favourites.

World’s Fastest Mega Yacht

The World’s fastest yacht is a great title to hold. After all, Superyachts, and especially Mega yachts are all about Excess. Whose yacht is better than everyone else’s

Let’s make something clear

The title, “World’s fastest yacht” can be held by a number of yachts and the overall fastest is much, much quicker than this one. But, there is a difference between a yacht, Superyacht, and a Mega Yacht. For the sake of this article we are talking about the world’s fastest yacht in “Mega Yacht” terms i.e. over 100m in length.

M/Y Azzam

Launched by Lurssen in 2013 and measuring 180m, M/Y Azzam was, at the time the largest yacht in the world. She was only beaten by the as yet unfinished REV Ocean last year when she was launched measuring 182.9m. So, Azzam is no longer officially the largest but she is definitely, for her size at least, the fastest.

Some Stats:

LOA: 180m

Beam: 20.8m

Draft: 4.3m

Crew: 80

Propulsion: 2 x 9000 KW MTU Diesel engines + Two Gas turbines. Total power = 97,000hp

Fuel consumption (top speed): 13 tonnes = 15,294 litres per hour

Azzam was not built to be the World’s fastest yacht, or indeed the world’s largest yacht either. She was originally designed to be 145m but in the process of “optimisation” she grew.

How fast?

During sea trials in the North Sea she reached 32 knots. She can reach a max speed of 33 knots. That’s quick for any yacht, but a 180m one! Can you imagine?

World’s Largest Sailing Yacht

S/Y A is the world’s largest Sailing Yacht.

Here are a few stats for you to marvel at:

Length: 142.81,

Beam: 24.88m

Draft: 8.00m

Designer: Philippe Starck

Shipyard: Nobiskrug

Delivered: 2017

Reported Value: $400m USD

What else can you tell us?

S/Y A was a major project from start to finish. Firstly due to her size but also because she is a sailing yacht. S/Y A is termed as a “sail assisted motor yacht”. The reason for this is because her sail area. displacement ratio is considerably lower than that of a pure sailing yacht. Basically this means the sails provide power but not as much as you would expect for a pure sailing yacht.

She has three unstayed Carbon masts. the largest in the world. The main mast measures 100m above the water line. That’s almost as high the London Eye!

Her total sail area is 3,747 Square metres. That’s equal to half a football pitch.

She carries upto 50 crew to look after her 20 guests and has a VERY cool glass observation area in the hull.

Power:

Because weight was an important factor in the build S/Y A has a very interesting power plant too.

Diesel Engines: 2 x MTU 20V 4000 M73L (3000KW)

Electric: 4 x 2800kw generators driving two Vacon 4300kw mineshaft motors.

This means she can sail with the diesel electric propulsion almost silently.

Looks

Her looks may not be to everyone’s taste but we LOVE the fact that the owner and designer had the vision to build something so different. Yacht design has come a long way over the years. Other than M/Y A (same owner), when she was delivered in 2008 there have been very few yachts ever to look so unconventional. For that, we are grateful.

World’s largest Charter yacht

M/Y Flying Fox is the world’s largest charter yacht!

Built in 2019 by Lurssen, and designed by Espen Øino, M/Y Flying Fox at 136m is the largest charter yacht in the world. Here are some eye watering details for you to try and take in!

Length: 136m
Beam: 22.5m
Draft: 5.1m

What else? Give us some more details

This monster of the seas can accommodate 25 guests in what you could only describe as the ultimate in Luxury. M/Y Flying Fox is of course massive and gives all guests on board a huge amount of space within her 9022 GRT volume.

Just to make sure you are taken care of properly, M/Y Flying Fox carries up to 55 Crew. That’s a ratio of more than 2 crew per 1 guest. Nice!

Features:

Flying Fox, as you would expect has all sorts of things on board to keep you entertained.

Beach Club

Beauty Room

Massage Room

Jacuzzi

Sauna

400 sqm, 2 floor Spa

Gym

Cinema .. . . . . . . .  And the list goes on!

Oh, and a 12m swimming pool!

Add to this the fact that you will more than likely be the largest yacht wherever you go and you will be smiling all the way from Monaco to St Tropez.

Where can I go?

At present Flying Fox is available to charter in the Western Mediterranean during the summer and the Eastern Mediterranean during the winter. This can change so get in touch with her charter team to learn more about location and availability.

How much?

Flying fox is available to charter exclusively with Imperial Yachts from €3,500,000 €uros per week!

Yes, we agree that’s a LOT of money but just look at her! Flying Fox has to be one of the most imposing, stunning looking yachts of recent years. So, if you are stuck for something to do this summer………

REV Ocean – World’s largest Superyacht

183m REV Ocean Yacht

She can’t technically qualify as the ‘World’s largest Superyacht’ until she is in commission. Which has now been delayed until at least 2024 due to technical issues at the Vard Group Shipyard. However, the team behind the construction of the 183m REV Ocean Yacht continues to strive towards the completion of the vessel, and develop on their research work which aims to improve ocean health and sustainability in yachting.

REV Ocean Yacht dimensions:

  • LOA: 182.9M
  • Beam: 22M
  • Draught: 5.5M
  • Air Draught: 42M
  • GRT: 17,440
  • Crew: 50
  • Guests: 28

She might be the largest Superyacht, but what is the purpose behind this?

Yes, we all know she’s huge and most people have probably seen all of this before but REV Ocean will be a true phenomenon in regards to the sustainability in yachting. The non-profit organisation will be using the profits generated from their projects to reinvest back into their work for a healthier ocean.

REV Oceans goal

The REV Ocean company was established on July 20th, 2017, and was funded by Norwegian businessman Kjell Inge Røkke. With the TAG line,  “One healthy Ocean”, their mission is to educate people on the ocean to help them go from ‘Curiosity to understanding the solutions’. In other words, the goal is to drive attention to how people can help the marine life, as well as helping our oceans recover from the negative impact of these three areas:

  • Plastic pollution
  • Climate change and ocean acidification
  • Overfishing and environmental impacts of fishing

You can learn more about how they plan to do this by Clicking here. In the meantime, please take a minute to consider how you can help contribute towards a healthier ocean.

Superyacht content would also like to add that we look forward to participating in an in-depth interview with the REV Ocean team at some point in the near future.

Azzam and Sailing Yacht A in Gibraltar

Two of the longest yachts in the world met in Gibraltar on Tuesday. Sailing Yacht A and Azzam. Check out the photos below….

Azzam has held the top spot for longest yacht in the world since her delivery in 2013 by Lürssen. Azzam’s exterior lines were penned by Nauta Design. She was originally planned to be 145 meters long but as the project grew so did the length due to getting all the working parts needed of a vessel of this volume while staying within the design brief of the long bow and swept back stern. She has a top speed of 33knots delivered by two gas turbine engines and 2 x MTU diesel engines producing a staggering 97,000hp and consuming 13 tonnes of fuel per hour at top speed.

Sailing yacht A was built by Nobiskrug and delivered to her owner in 2017. Technically a sail assisted motor yacht she still ranks as the largest sail yacht in the world by nearly 40 meters. Her three masts are the tallest and most highly loaded freestanding composite structures in the world. The mainmast towers 100 m above the waterline and she also has an underwater observation pod in the hull as well as her nearly invisible windows which give her a futuristic look. The legendary Philippe Starck created this unconventional design and she still continues to split opinions in and out of the industry to this day.

Superyachts allowed into Australia

Quarantine free access to Australia from New Zealand

Both New Zealand and Australia are enjoying extremely low Covid cases. Plus almost no community transmission.  Australia established quarantine free access for New Zealand arrivals by air some months ago. This open access is now also available to superyachts. Just in time for the completion of the America’s Cup.

David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia commented. “The last two vessels to apply to enter Australia from New Zealand have been approved to do so without quarantine requirements upon arrival in Sydney. The vessel occupants will be able to step off and go ashore as soon as they receive a negative Covid test result on arrival. This is now available to superyachts and occupants who have been in New Zealand for longer than 14 days for arrival into New South Wales.”

“Each vessel injects millions of dollars of economic contribution through the extensive use of contractors and tradesmen whenever they are in a port or marina. Australian shipyards are some of the best in the world. So it will be great to see these yachts making use of our skilled marine trades and shipyards. Which will keep these vessels in the region for longer,” stated Good.

“With the Olympics in Japan in a few months, it is likely that many of these vessels will remain in the Pacific.  At least for the remainder of this year. Hopefully the next staging of the America’s Cup will again be held in Auckland with a compressed turnaround to encourage even more into the Pacific,” concluded Good.

160 superyachts were expected to attend the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland. Covid reduced that number to 20. Although heavily reduced, the economic spend of this fleet is still estimated at tens of millions.

I didn’t know I could buy that

From Teaspoons to Main Engines: But what is actually in between?

We all know Global Services are one of largest Superyacht supply companies in the world. What we are certain you didn’t know is what they can actually supply. Here are 6 really cool things that you can order direct from them.

Manta5 Hydrofoiler XE-1

Is this the coolest thing you have ever seen?

The impossible, made possible, with the Hydrofoiler™ XE-1 by Manta5, the world’s first water-bike that replicates the cycling experience on water. Yes, you read that correctly. Cycling on water. Using the same technology as America’s Cup sailboats, the Hydrofoiler XE-1 expands cycling possibilities on a whole new water frontier.

Global services are an official distributor for this super cool piece of kit. Want to see this and more? Global have a vast Toy store full of amazing toys like this in their superyacht supply inventory. Check it out here.

Mobile Phone Contracts for Crew

Whilst you are flicking through your phone looking at the Global Services APP you may need to make a call! Lots of crew rely on data these days for their calls but, you still have to buy data somewhere. Whether it is for you, or a complete package for all the yacht phones, Global can supply these too. They don’t just supply the latest and greatest phones but the contracts too. Add to this the fact that they manage your contracts and make sure there are no horror stories and it’s another win. Oh, and it’s very competitive too. Have a look here

Zip Taps

How annoying is it at morning tea break when the kettle takes too long to boil? You’ve had one sip of your drink before “back to work”. It literally ruins your life twice a day!

Global has you covered. Just get in touch and order a new Zip Tap. Instant boiling, chilled or even filtered water at the touch of a button. This is a very popular product right now and is also discounted via Global.

Order direct through the Global APP for this to arrive with your next delivery.

Now all you need to do is persuade your chief engineer to fit it for you!

Tenders

Really? Yes you heard this right, Global can supply you with new and used tenders. Imagine this, you are on charter in the med and somehow your tender is damaged beyond repair. Your insurers will cover it but that doesn’t help you get a new boat does it?

This is where Global steps in. Due to their new relationship with Superyacht Tenders they are able to spec and order a new boat for you. They can also supply an interim tender to keep the boss happy until the new one arrives. There are no surcharges here and Global will match and sometimes beat the manufacturer’s price for the new boat. How’s that for service?

Global can supply anything from a 5m RiB to a 17m chase boat. And everything in between. Plus, if you have an old tender you need to get rid of this can be taken in part exchange too. Total no brainer as far as we are concerned.

Eco-Friendly cleaning products

Sustainability is a huge subject in yachting right now and rightly so. Global are taking this very seriously and therefore offer a large range of Eco Friendly cleaning products. Ecoworks Marine is one company growing quickly within the Superyacht industry and Global are happy to be able to do their bit for superyacht supply by offering such bio friendly products. These include;

They offer a full range of appliances and spares with healthy discounts. So, next time you need new parts or machines get in touch to add them to your Global order.

So, if you didn’t realise you could buy all these things, imagine what else Global can supply you with. Their team supports a huge number of Superyachts worldwide and prides themselves on saving you time, money and stress with every order.
