Monaco Yacht Show Adventure Area To Launch At 2022 Event

Monaco Yacht Show adventure area

From the 28th of September to the 1st of October, the new Monaco Yacht Show Adventure Area is set to boast a vast range of day-trip and sports tenders, luxury and off-road vehicles, water toys, high-tech gadgets, helicopters, and tailor-made programs to explore the planet’s most remote destinations.

The exhibition will span across two sites at Monaco’s Port Hercule: Quai Antoine Ier, which previously featured the Car Deck and Tenders & Toys exhibitions, is now home to the Adventure Area that combines the two themes in a single location, boasting a myriad of luxury vehicles, tenders and water toys for visitors to discover; secondly, as in previous editions, around twenty tenders will be moored at Quai Jarlan.

READ MORE – Monaco Yacht Show Announce New Sustainability Hub

This extended exhibition for all adventure and leisure activities reflects the MYS’ continued ambition to bring visitors the finest yachting experience. Today, charter clients want to drive all-terrain vehicles to the North Pole, go on underwater excursions, take tender rides off the coast of secluded islands, enjoy tailor-made tours of historical and cultural sites in coastal destinations, and discover animal species – while respecting their ecosystems – and even take part in scientific field trips.

By announcing three new themed exhibitions for 2022 – the Sustainability Hub, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub (new format), and the Monaco Yacht Show Adventure Area – MYS has proven that it is on course towards its goal: helping the industry redefine the yachting experience (an expression that has become all-too-common) and appeal to a new Superyacht charter clientele. This new generation challenges current yachting standards: it is revolutionising the concept of luxury with its epicurean vision and desire to freely discover new experiences – one that prevails over the need to own.

– Locations: Quai Antoine Ier, Quai Jarlan, Port Hercule, Monaco

– Free access with a valid MYS pass

– Opening hours: 10 a.m. – 6.30 p.m. (6 p.m. on Saturday)

Yacht Crew: How to Work From Anywhere

Yacht Crew, times are changing, and working remotely is the new normal. Are you beginning to consider what you’re going to do with your life after yachting? Once you learn how to become a digital nomad and work from anywhere, this gives you ultimate freedom over your life. But, getting started can be difficult… To help you out, we are going to share the tips, which will have you booking your flight tickets tomorrow!

Yacht crew, it's time to work remotely.

Tips to Become a Digital Nomad Right Now!

Are you looking to leave your career as yacht crew? Would you rather be earning great cash while working on a beach or in Thailand or a cafe in Paris? Then check out our tips, where we will show you how to become a digital nomad!

1.  Pick the Right Freelancing Job

Ten years ago, it was incredibly difficult to become a digital nomad as only a select few jobs were remote and many clients weren’t comfortable doing business 100% over the internet. However, things have completely changed as the world has digitised, and you now can earn money through all kinds of methods such as full-time remote roles, freelance work, and even taking surveys or even playing games!

To ensure you can earn enough money to support your digital nomad lifestyle, here are some great digital nomad jobs you can pursue:

  •     Software development
  •     Copywriting
  •     Digital marketing
  •     English teaching
  •     Accounting and bookkeeping

To find digital jobs, you can either apply to fully remote positions or become a freelancer and use platforms such as Upwork or Fiverr to find clients. Don’t worry if you lack experience. If you take some online courses and offer low prices, you can quickly build up a portfolio and go after higher-paying clients.

2.    Get Your Finances in Check

Before you decide to become a full-time digital nomad, you need to have a solid amount of savings. At the beginning of your digital nomad journey, you may struggle to find enough work, and you will be hit with unexpected expenses as you get used to your new location. That is why we recommend you save up at least 6 months of living costs before quitting all of your other jobs and traveling around the world. Six months of savings will provide a nice cushion and allow you to start your digital nomad life without feeling the pressure of looming expenses.

To ensure you have saved up enough cash, you need to create a digital nomad budget. This budget will vary wildly based on the location you choose to relocate to. For example, in many parts of SouthEast Asia, you can live a very comfortable life on $1000 per month, while in places in Western Europe, you may need 3 times that amount. When coming up with a budget, you should include the basics such as rent, food, health care, insurance. You will very likely underestimate your costs, so expect your true budget to be 20% higher than your estimate.

3.   Choose Your New Home

Being yacht crew, you’ve more than likely travelled to different places all over the world, so where do you head to first? The most popular digital nomad countries tend to be affordable countries with great weather, are safe, a high percentage of the population speak English, and have Western-style amenities. Based on these criteria, it becomes obvious why so many digital nomads choose places like Thailand. Other popular choices include:

  •     Hungary
  •     Sri Lanka
  •     Croatia
  •     Mexico
  •     Malaysia
  •     Bali

As you become an expert digital nomad guide, you can start to explore off the beaten path, but for your first destination, it is best to choose a popular destination that already has everything you need.

4.    How do you create a Remote working Plan as yacht crew?

While the idea of aimlessly drifting across the world sounds good, this lifestyle can get old quickly. Coming up with a specific plan is one of the most popular digital nomad essentials. Important things to include on your digital nomad plan include:

  •     Income goals – Yacht crew tend to have more money saved than an individual in a 9-5 job, but If you don’t have a plan you will be stuck earning less, and many countries will start to seem unaffordable for you to visit.
  •     Daily to-do list – Just because you’re a digital nomad doesn’t mean you can just sit on the beach all day and still function!
  •     Sights you want to see – If you don’t plan, you may end up just sitting all day working in your apartment, which you could have done at home, not exactly digital nomad heaven!
  •     Skills you want to develop – Keep developing as a person and write things you want to achieve, don’t become a stagnant digital nomad.

Conclusion

Now you know exactly how to kickstart your digital nomad life, it is time to create your plan and get started on your incredible new journey. There is no reason why you can’t earn amazing money online and live anywhere in the world! So what are your favorite digital nomad destinations?

Antartica By Superyacht: What Can Your Guests Expect?

More and more crew are sharing with us the trend in their guests wanting to explore the more unusual, off the beaten track Superyacht destinations. And as the yachting industry continuously evolves, West Nautical have also seen an inquiry of yachts wanting to visit more diverse locations, such as the GalapagosSvalbard and more recently, Antarctica. Below, the UK-Based charter brokerage reveals an insight into Antartica by Superyacht and what this incredible off-the beaten track has to offer to both guests and crew.

Antartica by Superyacht

About Antartica:

Antarctica is the home an array of incredible wildlife, isolated ice bergs and snow-covered deserts – often the last continent to be checked off of ones geographical bucket list! It’s the largest single mass of ice in the world and can be up to four miles thick in some places. This means that this icy continent as a whole, contains about 90% of the planets freshwater ice. As well as, around 70% of the total fresh water on earth. The polar region is also home to the southern-most active volcano,  and Lake Vostok (which is buried 4km’s under a sheet of ice and is the size of Lake Ontario in Canada).

Wildlife in Antartica:

The uninhabited nature of Antarctica means that the wildlife found on this icy continent is unique and diverse. Crew and guests can expect to come across an impressive array of marine animals and birds, including 18 different species of penguins. Travelling to Antarctica to witness the feeding and breeding grounds of these incredible creatures gives you a hint of what their life is like in the wild.

Discover Antartica by Superyacht and visit the ocean floors by Submersible

Antarctica is known as one of the best places in the world to go whale watching. Solemnly due to the fact that during the summer months, there are up to 10 different species of whale that migrate here to breed and feed. When cruising or kayaking in the Antarctic Peninsula, it is not unheard of for curious whales to seemingly appear out of nowhere to explore.

The killer whale is most commonly found in the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. These whales are at the top of the food chain and are the biggest carnivores on earth with some reaching up to 10 metres in length. Further down in the food chain are seals. Six different species, including the elephant seal, call the continent home.

Summer in Antartica:

During the summer months, when most Superyachts cruise Antarctica, guests will be able to enjoy non-stop sunshine as the sun does not set meaning that Antarctica receives more sunlight than the equator during that time. Superyacht guests can enjoy a truly adventurous holiday including kayaking, hiking and photographing this untouched continent environment.

Antartica by Superyacht - Wildlife

Discover Antarctica’s oceans by submersible:

Due to the nature of the ocean in Antarctica, most Superyachts that cruise these waters need specialist ice certifications. Meaning, that the most likely style of Superyacht to be found here is an expedition yacht. These are designed especially for cruising remote locations for longer periods of time. Expedition yachts can facilitate several unique toys; one of which is often a deep-sea submersible.

Submersibles are often found on expedition yachts, and can travel to extremely low depths of up to 2,200 M / 7,500 FT – The height of 5 empire state building stacked on top of each other! Therefore, they provide access to Antarctica’s wildlife far beyond what scuba diving allows. As well as eliminating the need to decompress between dives. Superyacht guests who don’t have a diving licence needn’t worry as each sub is accompanied by a pilot to take you down to under the waves.

What better way to view this amazing array of wildlife than to join them in their natural habitat below the surface? And what better way to explore the world above the surface than from the luxurious decks of a Superyacht? The perfect relationship between luxury and adventure. Antartica is the ideal yachting destinations to spend the days exploring and the evenings making most of the elegant dinners prepared on board.

As technology has developed, so have the submersibles. Over time, they’ve been adapted for the Superyacht industry, including aspects of their design, technology and how they are launched and manoeuvred. These mini subs are fully equipped with lights, 4K cameras and sometimes robotic arms.

In a 2017 article on Superyacht Life, Jan Verkerk, owner of 77m explorer yacht Legend said:

“The sub is very popular with charter guests. The best place we’ve taken it so far is Antarctica. It is just indescribable to dive there alongside large whales, penguins and seals. You can also see large underwater portions of icebergs. It’s like nothing else.”

3 Activities for your guests visiting Antartica by Superyacht:

  • A whole group activity: Take a trip to a private camp on ice and sleep in comfort in a truly wild setting.
  • For wildlife enthusiasts: Cooksons adventures can connect you with leading marine scientists to help your vessel track and follow resident pods of humpback whales.
  • For the active Superyacht guests: Hiking, skiing, ice climbing and mountaineering with expert guides in Antartica is just a small slice of the cake that this continent has to offer to thrill seeking guests!

Visiting Antarctica is a truly life-changing experience. So, why not pair it with the luxurious, unique experience of cruising on a Superyacht, with all the adventurous amenities and activities any person could dream of?

Elite Yacht Covers: Improving Yacht Awnings Using CAD & Form-Finding Design

When travelling the world, yacht owners, charter guests, and crew members spend plenty of time on the exterior decks of the Superyachts, often making it a necessity to have either a yacht awning, canopy, or cover fitted. Besides the importance of protecting guests and crew from the Med season’s UV rays, yacht awnings provide shade to the vessel’s fixtures, furnishings, and fittings. Without the correct fitted shading, a yacht’s finishings can be bleached or warped under too much sun exposure.

Elite Yacht Covers has over 50 years of combined design experience and have worked on over 20 yachts, including one of the largest Sailing yachts to date. The company specialises in designing bespoke yacht awnings, covers, and canopies, but also sprayhoods using the top materials. Co-founders, Joe and Paul pride themselves in considering not only what the cover has to do, but also how it will be used and by how many crew.

Elite Yacht Covers - Yacht Awnings

About Elite Yacht Covers

EYC is a UK-based business, supplying architectural yacht awnings, covers, and canopies to Superyachts and Sailing yachts all over the Med region. Originally, the company started with a team of two, but has recently grown to a team of 10+ and continues to expand. Both Joe and Paul set the company up with the ultimate goal of pioneering CAD-designed cover solutions, to help bring yacht cover design and the highest quality yacht awnings into the 21st century. At present, they work in collaboration with Loft Customs in Palma, allowing Elite Yacht Covers and Loft to offer a first-class service to their joint customers in Palma.

What have you found to be the most common issues that yachts come across with awnings and covers? For example, bad fits and how does your company ensure they resolve these?

When yacht awnings are fitted poorly, it can damage the yacht and reduce the life expectancy of the awning. Because of this, the team at Elite Yacht Covers focuses on providing the maximum coverage, without the requirements of battens, poles, and other cumbersome items. “It’s at the heart of what we do” – co-founder, Paul Gray.

“We consider the size and weight, to make sure that the stowage size is compatible with the yacht’s stowage capacity, but we also liaise with the Captains and crew to get an understanding of how many crew will be tasked with the setting up. We use CAD and digital measuring, which is in its complete own league! This enables EYC to run wind loads through the design and correctly spec the Dyneema cables. It’s been a game-changer, not only for us, but yachts have had badly fitted yacht awning and cover, time and time again.”

– Co-founder, Joe Peat

Yacht Awnings & Cover Materials:

When it comes to sourcing a Superyacht Cover, one thing that needs to be considered is the material. This is to determine whether or not it can withstand the conditions a Superyacht experiences. Elite Yacht Covers are made in-house by experienced machinists to ensure they know that their clients are getting high-quality products. As well as allowing them to customise each yacht awning/cover to suit the individual needs of the customer.

When manufacturing the yacht awnings, covers, and canopies, the process is done using the best-suited fabric for the project. Paul elaborates: “We use a range of materials from lightweight breathable Polyesters such as WeatherMax 80 and more recently WeatherMax3D. We also use most of the Serge Ferarri range. Stamoid is the ‘go to’ because of its wipe-clean surface and great UV properties, however, as in all fabrics, they have their limitations, in terms of breathability.”

See below a previous example:

1. The problem:

Paul: “We were working on a Yacht in 40+ degrees heat in Corfu and the brief was to replace the furniture covers ‘like for like’. Upon inspection, the teak has been ‘sweating’ inside the cover and the oils were seen to be weeping out.”

2. The solution:

Paul: “We resolved this by using Stamoid ‘Smart 1’ which is both breathable and impermeable at the same time, using a ‘Goretex’ type technology. The use of the Soltis range of mesh shading is invaluable and as such the range of weights, strengths and shading grow year on year. Using these mesh’s adds a well-needed shaded and privacy option, whilst allowing for cooling airflow.”

How has Elite Yacht Covers CAD Technology changed the game for the yachting industry?

Since EYC entered the yachting industry, gone are the days of bad-fitted yacht awnings and covers. Captain Harry Blazeby once gave Elite Yacht Covers the challenge of creating a deck awning for S/Y Aurelius for the upcoming Med season with just one months notice before their first owners’ trip. EYC successfully completed the bespoke yacht awning, resulting in all-round smiles for the crew and guests.

“The brief was for a simple awning design that could be set up and broken down by a small crew with minimal fuss, which also took up minimal storage space. Having worked with Paul a few years ago, I knew his background and had confidence in his experience with tensile awnings. By the time I signed off the computer renderings, we had less than 3 weeks before the owner arrived. The awning was delivered to us in Palma with a couple of days to spare, which was an awesome turnaround. Once set up and tweaked by their Palma partners (Loft Customs) it was clear that EYC had nailed it first time, and there was no need for any modification.

The owner and his children absolutely love the new awning, which he described as a total game changer. Primarily because it opens up a huge area of cushioned deck space for guest usage that would otherwise be out of bounds in the midday Mediterranean sun.”

– Captain Harry Blazeby

EYC uses a unique blend of traditional ‘Black Art’ hand templating methods for some styles of covers, and the latest cutting-edge tech for others. Using a 3D scanner and CAD software, mixed with their expertise in hand templating, gives the yacht awnings, cover and canopy specialists a unique advantage in taking on all bespoke canvas designs.

Paul: “The clear advantage in using the 3D measuring with a CNC cutter is the accuracy, and the next is the repeatability. The tensile Awnings also benefit from the next generation ‘form finding’ software. This is critical for the added stability and set of an Awning. We use a Dyneema skeleton framework to take the big loads required for a perfectly set Awning. The stand-out factor about our products is the detail! We look much deeper into how we’re asking the fabric to perform and to set the level of build to a safe working load.”

Elite Yacht covers and yacht awnings

So, how would a Captain or chief stew get in contact with Elite Yacht Covers with a bespoke yacht awning/cover inquiry

Paul: We tend to have large numbers of enquiries through our social media channels. But, our most common form of connection is through recommendations from within the industry. Our close partnership with Loft Customs in Palma allows us to offer a first-class service to our joint customers in Palma. And at present, we currently have work in several Mediterranean destinations and a current contract to travel to a yacht in Seychelles. Regarding our order process and the initial contact, we would look to find out more details about usage/expectations. As well as any issues with current covers, such as improvements that can be implemented into our product.

EYC would then provide an estimate based on the discussions and sizes, in addition to travel costs if required. Once we are onboard, we again run through the specification and sometimes fine-tune the design with the crew tasked to use the covers; These are the guys we gain the most input from, and some minor changes in detail can facilitate a quicker deployment of the yachts cover.

We have a large number of enquiries through our social media channels:

However, our most common form of connection is through recommendations from within the industry. Elite Yacht Covers are online , almost 24/7 to the Captains and crew in case any issues occur or advice is needed. It’s super important to all of us that we can offer the highest level of support for our products!
