Catamarans are quickly rocketing to the top of the ‘what’s hot’ list and with big-name players involved (both of the shipyard and sports personality variety), we take a look at just some of the many multihull models on offer.
BlackCat Superyachts
The catamarans from BlackCat Superyachts come with significantly more bite. This innovative new brand is the brainchild of Australian Olympic yachtsman, Mitch Booth – a man who has spent more than 40 years racing virtually every type of catamaran, has skippered and managed America’s Cup campaigns and holds over a dozen world titles and sailing awards.
BlackCat have presented 50m, 35m and 30m catamaran concepts, which have been designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design. There’s an alliance of premium partners involved, including notable industry names such as North Sails, Southern Spars and M2atelier. The concepts have been developed to significantly advanced stages, with build prices from leading shipyards now available.
State-of-the-art, super-sleek and breathtakingly beautiful, these high-performance carbon-fibre cats offer superyacht-level luxury with minimised emissions and an optimised use of space.
McConaghy Multihulls
Known for their prowess and expertise in the racing yacht market, McConaghy launched a range of multihulls in 2016 and the series has quickly gained popularity with an international client base. The McConaghy Multihulls range in size from 50ft to 77ft, and there’s a 59ft power-cat amongst the collection. All feature clean lines, apartment-style living and overall, an open and modern dynamic that simultaneously enables more comfortable cruising and better performance.
Sunreef
Sunreef Yachts have been around since the early 2000s but their catamarans received a catapult to fame more recently, when one of their 80-foot power cats was ordered by international tennis star, Rafael Nadal. Adding to their high-profile advocates, last month Sunreef appointed Formula One World Champion Nico Rosberg as an Eco Ambassador for the brand.
The Sunreef shipyard is located in Gdansk, Poland, and the company offers charter, brokerage and management services alongside its product line.
Sunreef have a variety of power and sailing catamarans in their collection, as well as two large trimaran concepts.

Southern Wind
Semi-custom high-performance sailing superyacht builder, Southern Wind, has just announced its SWCAT90 – a 90ft catamaran that promises comfortable, fun and safe sailing with advanced autonomy.
The concept has been developed in collaboration with Nauta Design and Berret-Racoupeau.
The design features a versatile aft deck lounge with a raise and lower beach club platform, a spacious flybridge with dual helm positions, and a forward seating area with tables, which is nestled between the two hulls.
The available space on the SWCAT90 is comparable to a 36m monohull whilst providing 50% more deck space than would be found on a comparable 27m monohull.
Pajot Yachts
From Marc Pajot comes the 110-foot Eco Yacht, an aluminium-hulled catamaran which boasts two major innovations: The design utilises a centred carbon mast with no boom (the mainsail is stowed in a locker and set when required), and the VIP cabins are positioned to aft – making full use of the hull height and benefitting from direct access to the aft deck via full-height glass doors.
The Eco Yacht is equipped with a long-range diesel-electric propulsion system, hydrodynamic generators and solar panels for the production of onboard power and, as well as providing accommodation for 12 guests, there’s a foredeck pool and an open-plan saloon with lounge, galley and formal dining area.
